My Experience with the Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Kettle By Sea To Summit

Admittedly, I am no camp cook. I don't like to prepare food while backpacking or while out in nature. So most cookware is not very exciting to me, unless its main purpose is to quickly boil water. Then I am curious! So I found myself quite curious when I received the Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Kettle by Sea To Summit. I thought to myself, huh, this is super cute. I like this.

I was a little apprehensive about the silicone build. It concerned me that the flame of my stove could hit the silicone. So I got to testing it out in my yard as a first line of testing. And keeping the stove's flame small to keep it on the metal underside of the kettle was no issue. The water I had in it started boiling quickly once I felt confident I could let the gear do its thing.

The Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Kettle By Sea To Summit is under two inches tall when collapsed. Pretty awesome!

I've packed this collapsible kettle along for backpacking trips three times at this point, along with the collapsible cup from Sea To Summit. The cup fits nicely inside the kettle. This is an impressively small setup when it's collapsed. It's less than two inches thick, which is less clunky than a titanium pot, in my opinion. I supposed to some extent it depends on how you pack your stove.

I truly enjoy the whimsy factor of having a kettle in the backcountry, even when I am doing the whole ultralight thing. It tickles me. And for my style of backpacking, it makes a lot of sense! I am only ever boiling water, and the Sea To Summit Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Kettle does that well. I made tea, coffee and hot water to re-hydrate my meals with this. It pours very nice and the handles are lightweight, but very sturdy!

Because this is just used with water, it's simple to keep clean. If it gets dirty, silicone is easy to wipe down. After a few backpacking trips, the durability seems nice, but of course remains to be seen. I need a few more adventures with it to make a bold claim on durability. However, Sea To Summit is a very reliable company and the kettle comes with a lifetime guarantee.

The Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Kettle is large enough for two nice cups of coffee, or two dehydrated meals. Or a coffee and a meal.

If you love a good kettle and also love backpacking and also love ultralight gear... wow. The Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Kettle was put on earth for you. If you're just someone who loves a bit of whimsy in the woods and needs to boil water to survive, you'll love the Frontier Kettle too!
