As someone with butt-length, very thick hair, this was exciting news! I always have to backpack with a paddle brush with a cut off handle. It's bulky and not very lightweight. But would an ultralight hairbrush be able to manage my luscious locks?

This is a simple review but hopefully an important one for those in need of a solution for backpacking with a hairbrush. CTUG really solved a problem when they decided to create this ultralight paddle brush!

My Experience with the Hiker Hairbrush By Chicken Tramper Ultralight Gear

I gave the Hiker Hairbrush a very rigorous test after a huge hike in Canyonlands. During the hike my hair was in braids, but that didn't work for the backpack I was wearing and my braids kept getting pulled on by the edges of the sternum strap webbing. If you have long hair, you'll know that everything wants to grab your hair. And on the day of this hike my backpack was relentless. This left me with two very large rat-nests halfway down my braids. Not great.

When I got back to the trailhead at the end of the day, I was actually really concerned that I did not pack my cushy paddle brush, as I had planned to test and review the Chicken Tramper Ultralight Gear Hiker Hairbrush. But I thought it was likely not up to smoothing out all the knots I had acquired on the hike.

I undid my braids and slipped the Hiker Hairbrush over my fingers. And started to carefully brush my hair in small increments as not to exacerbate the knots. Much to my surprise, my hair was becoming untangled. The bristles on this brush are very smooth and allow for hair to slip through easily. The more you use this brush, the more effective it is, because it shapes to your hand, which gives it the rigidity of a classic paddle brush.

In about five minutes of brushing, I was able to completely brush out the terrible knots in my hair and had started to run the brush the full length of my hair with ease. I was genuinely surprised that the Hiker Hairbrush by CTUG was up to the task. I will be bringing this little tool backpacking from here on out. Long gone are the days of packing my cumbersome paddle brush with its handle chopped off!

It feels really dramatic to say the Hiker Hairbrush has changed my backpacking game, but it honestly has. Being able to pack an ultralight and very small brush into the wilderness is a big deal. Something like a small comb or simple hairbrush will not work in my hair. But this little paddle brush does and it's perfect. I am as excited about its small size as I am its tiny weight.
