My Experience with the Lunar Duo Backpacking Tent By Six Moon Designs

During early spring, I went on a short backpacking trip on the Colorado Plateau. Because the Lunar Duo Backpacking Tent is a 3-season tent, I figured it would be a good time of year to test that claim out. This turned out to be a very cold trip, complete with a bit of snow and sleet.

On the first evening of my trip, I got the tent pitched pretty quick. I noted the amount of space needed to pitch this tent and immediately knew that for many adventures, this simply takes up too much ground space. Space can be quite limited when it comes to backcountry camp sites. While this certainly isn't the largest 2-person tent on the market, you must be mindful of its size. Other than that, the pitch was easy and the tent felt really stable.

The size of the Lunar Duo is great once you get to kickback inside. Me and my partner both have plenty of room and most of our gear could be inside with us. The vestibules are also nice and spacious. I love good vestibules and this tent has them! They kept our shoes nice and dry, along with some of the other gear we didn't want to bring inside the tent overnight.

For the entirety of this trip, nights were frigid, wet and windy. For a single wall tent, condensation was minimal. The vents worked well. Was there some moisture inside the tent in the morning? Yes, definitely. But it was never too bad and always minimal enough that we could dry out the damp bits once the sun came up.

Vents help to keep condensation at a minimum!

The packed size of the Lunar Duo Backpacking Tent is compact and the stuff sack makes packing it up easy, as it's slightly oversized. I like to keep the packed up tent in the side pocket of my backpack, and it fit there no problem. Because I pitched this with my trekking poles, there was no pole that needed to be packed up.

This is a very straightforward tent. It doesn't have much for bells and whistles, but does ultralight backpacking really well. Because of its size, I do think this is a highly versatile tent. It will be great for road trips and car camping, even if you're a solo adventurer. It's nice to have loads of space to spread out in!

If you're looking for a spacious and thoughtful ultralight tent for two, the Lunar Duo Backpacking Tent is certainly worth checking out. Of course this tent comes complete with the Six Moon Designs guarantee for the life of the tent!
