Gear Review: SkyGOAT Grid Fleece CAMP Jacket

The wonderful world of adventure grid fleece is vast and there are loads of different options and different styles to best suit your pursuits! Today we're taking a look at SkyGOAT's Grid Fleece CAMP Jacket. This mid-layer full zip jacket is available in women's and men's sizing and comes in some very nice colorways.

The grid fleece SkyGOAT uses is called GOATgrid and it is completely unique to the company. It's special for being featherweight, sweat wicking and extremely breathable. I noticed immediately that it also seems to be much softer than most grid fleeces, which is a nice bonus!

My Experience with the SkyGOAT Grid Fleece CAMP Jacket

I've been curious about SkyGOAT's grid fleece for a while and picked up the CAMP Jacket right on time for a big adventure in Canyonlands National Park. For this hiking trip, I was dealing with temperatures ranging from 20°f to 40°f, although I don't think it got up to 40° very often!

I wore the SkyGOAT Grid Fleece CAMP Jacket on three big day hikes and around camp. I found it to be a super comfortable jacket, with the right amount of breathability for being very active. It's extremely soft fleece with a lot of stretch. I usually wear a medium in pieces like this and that's what I went with for this jacket. It fits well and I'm able to wear a base layer under it with plenty of wiggle room. This jacket layers well with a puffy or hardshell on top.

I think this is a great layer for chilly hiking and it was noticeably great at wicking sweat and keeping my body temperature in a good place. Like I said; it's very comfortable and the range of motion from this jacket is killer.

Where the SkyGOAT Grid Fleece CAMP Jacket falls flat is the thumb holes. They are misplaced and useless because of it. This isn't a deal breaker for me, as I am not always a big fan of thumb holes. But it's definitely a design flaw I cannot overlook. The other issue I have with the CAMP Jacket is that sometimes you can feel the seams. This problem is averted when you wear a base layer, but again, it's a design flaw on an otherwise super nice fleece.

Overall, this is a grid fleece jacket that I will wear a lot. I love that it's so comfortable and I appreciate that it doesn't have a hood. SkyGOAT is based in Dillon, Colorado, which I also like. It's a small business that's located in near where I used to live in another lifetime.
