Gear Review: Stio Pinion Down Pullover
I have sported the Pinion Down Pullover for a handful of scrambly climbs in the alpine and it's quite durable. No snags or rips to be seen. So hooray for that!
If you're looking for a great down jacket, but a full-zip isn't your style, I'm here to tell you all about Stio's Pinion Down Pullover! Stio makes their Pinion Down jacket line complete with a down hooded jacket, down parka and down vest. So the lineup has pretty much every style of down insulator covered. But I love a good pullover and couldn't resist picking this one up!
This lightweight, weather-resistant hoodie is insulated with 800-fill HyperDRYâ„¢ down and made with 100% recycled nylon, featuring a kangaroo pocket that conveniently doubles as a stuff sack for the perfect camp pillow. The casual pullover style is super cozy and looks nice too!

My Experience with Stio's Pinion Down Pullover
I purchased the Pinion Down Pullover in October of 2023 and pretty much wore it the entire autumn, winter and spring that followed. I absolutely love a kangaroo pocket and I also love hoodies. So this immediately felt like a down jacket made just for me!
The Pinion Down Pullover performs well on day hikes. It is breathable and lightweight, making it nice for slow meanders or wearing once the intense cardio is a wrap and you need to stay warm. It packs down small, so packing it up in your backpack is no big deal and the weight is not noticeable.
This down pullover is great for less active times too. Think road trips, driving days or kicking it at your favorite coffee shop.
Not always a priority, but a bonus for sure, the colors that this jacket comes in are super pretty. Lots of colors to choose from too!
It's definitely a layerable piece and fits well under a hardshell. If you plan to wear more than a base layer under it and have a large chest, I would recommend sizing up by one size. But the overall fit is great and true to size. It isn't a close-fitting jacket, but it's a boxy cut either. It fits in a comfortable yet tailored way, which is perfect for maintaining range of motion and breathability.
I have sported the Pinion Down Pullover for a handful of scrambly climbs in the alpine and it's quite durable. No snags or rips to be seen. So hooray for that! Stio uses a Recycled Pertex® Quantum® shadow ripstop for the outer layer of this jacket and it seems to be burly as hell based on how I've used it.
The Pinion Down Pullover is available for women and for men. And as I mentioned above, the Pinion Down line also comes in a broad range of styles if a pullover isn't your style.
If you're seeking a new down puffy, definitely give this pullover a try. I have been really happy with it over the long term and would certainly replace it with the same if I were to lose it or have some kind of down jacket mishap!
