Gear Review: Teton Sunglasses By Ombraz
Check out our review of the Teton Sunglasses by Omraz! Featuring a unique armless design, polarized lenses, and incredible durability, they stay secure during any adventure. But how do they stack up against traditional shades?
Traditional sunglasses can be a hassle, according to Ombraz. As they say, traditional shades tend to break, slip off, pinch behind your ears, and are tricky to store. Ombraz aims to fix all that by ditching the arms and replacing them with a built-in cord. The result? Sunglasses that won’t break, fall off, and, when worn right, fit shockingly more comfortable than regular shades. Plus, they come with top-notch Zeiss optics and a lifetime warranty.
I have been testing out the Teton Sunglasses by Ombraz over the last few weeks and have a lot of thoughts!
Because I have worn different styles of Ombraz in the past, I did grab the new side shields and nose pad riser when I ordered the Teton Sunglasses. More on why below!

My Experience with the Teton Sunglasses By Ombraz
In the past I have tried out Ombraz sunglasses. And to be quite honest, I wasn't a huge fan. I found them annoying to wear during any activity that would require me to be taking sunglasses off, putting them back on, again and again. I also found them wickedly uncomfortable, as the lenses touched my long eyelashes. That is not a good feeling. So needless to say, I didn't love them. Recently however, Ombraz started to make two products that make me give them a second try; nose pad risers and side shields.
When my Teton Sunglasses arrived, boxed up with the nose pad risers and side shields, I set up my new frames quickly. It was easy to click the nose pad riser into place. The side shields took slightly more finesse, but they were an easy install too. The difference these two additions make to the fit and versatility of these sunglasses is night and day. The nose pad riser keeps the frames situated on the right part of my face, and the side shields protect my eyes of being blinded by side-sun.
Shortly after getting the Tetons by Ombraz, I hit the trail for a very long trek! This was in canyon country, which is a pretty great area and style of terrain to test out sunglasses. Right off the bat I noted that these were comfortably on my face, and the cord went unnoticed once I got the fit just right. The cord has an adjustable slider to give or take slack.
Something to pay attention to when getting that fit dialed in is that the slider can get tangled in your hair. Not an enormous issue, but it falls into the annoyance category.
I take tons of photos when I hike, both with my phone and camera, so I go in little bursts of removing my sunglasses and putting them back on throughout my hikes. With normal sunglasses, it's not an issue. With Ombraz sunglasses... well truth be told it gets a bit annoying. I like that I can just drop them around my neck when I take them off, but the hassle of putting them back on makes me think that these aren't a good fit for my hikestyle (like a lifestyle but for hiking). Especially since I have really never had an issue with breaking my tradition sunglasses or having them slip off or pinch.
I can see where the Ombraz design would be great for paddling or mountain biking, so I plan to test them out for both of those activities over the coming months. Maybe I'll be more impressed! For now, I am firmly in camp meh when it comes to the Teton Sunglasses by Ombraz, and Ombraz overall. The design makes sense to me, but maybe I'm not the consumer they had in mind when designing them.
