My Experience with Farm To Summit Dehydrated Backpacking Meals

For a few years now, Farm To Summit's dehydrated backpacking meals have been one of my favorite options for adventure meals. I like the unique flavors they use, like green chile and various southwest spices. I've also been able to meet the owners Louise and Jane here in southwest Colorado and they're lovely humans, which makes supporting Farm To Summit a pleasure.

One of the things I appreciate most about Farm To Summit is their use of veggies! They pack a lot of nutrition into dehydrated backpacking meals. This generally means that Farm To Summit meals are super filling, full of fiber, and packed with a bit more flavor than your standard backcountry fare.

Thai Red Curry and Three Bean Chili & Cornbread are two standout meals from Farm To Summit, making them two of the dehydrated meals I feast on most often.

Because of the sustainable packaging Farm To Summit uses, it's important to be a bit mindful about how you pack these meals up. They can tear a little bit easier than meals packaged in less eco-friendly packaging. I have had two packages tear open over the span of 4 years. Not too terrible, but also not great in the moment.

The most popular meals from Farm To Summit are their Green Chile Mac & Cheese, and their Thai Red Curry. Both are excellent, and available directly from Farm To Summit, and over at REI. It's an awesome thing when small companies get picked up by REI, and that just recently happened for this small company. So three cheers to them!

The cook time on all Farm To Summit meals is about what you'd expect: 15 minutes in low elevations, and around 25 minutes above 10,000 feet. A few of their meals can be cold soaked.
